Miss Houston International 2010

What is your most prized possession?

Traveling Europe for three months, I learned that possessions that are bought aren’t very important – memories are what make life so special. After my parents had helped me move into my dorm at college, I went back into my room & found a note from my Daddy. He has always been great at reminding me that he is proud of me, but this letter was really something special. He outlined the reasons he was proud of me, what he expected out of me, what I should expect out of myself, things that he wished he had known when he was my age, and just a plethora of wonderful things for a father to say to his daughter. I love to read that letter over and over again either when I’m having a bad day, when I miss him, or when I just need a little reminder of what is important to me. That is something that cannot be replaced with any amount of money!

What is something few people know about you?

I’m pretty open about most things, but few people know that I used to go hunting for sharks’ teeth! My grandmom was very into fossils, and when I stayed with her over the summers, she wanted to share that hobby with me. We would go to North Carolina and find HUNDREDS of sharks’ teeth. It was such a unique activity, but I enjoyed every minute of it!

What do you do to stay healthy?

I believe correct nutrition above all else is the key to staying healthy. You are what you eat! Personally, I try to eat right, but cheating is fun now and then too! I also run & lift weights.  Of course that kind of exercise routine can get boring and be hard to adhere to, so I get a lot of exercise from being a dancer for the Houston Rockets. Also, I have recently gotten started with yoga, and I just LOVE it! Namaste J

Are you a good listener or a good talker?

I am both! It all depends on the situation. I have no problem talking…EVER! I can carry on a conversation with just about everyone about just about anything! But I love to hear other people’s side on issues, what they’re thinking, their different experiences, and I believe I’m good at helping solve other people’s problems, which is done by listening.  I also like to ask a lot of questions; so being a good listener comes hand in hand with that!

Name 3 characteristics you look for in a friend.

Looking at my group of friends, they are people who know who they are, enjoy being adventurous, and have a great sense of humor. I have always been drawn to others who have good self-confidence. It’s one of the most important things to have as a person & when you exude self-confidence, you are always a more pleasant person to be around! Also, I love trying new things – whether it be new food, activities, or ways of thinking - and I have great friends who will embark on these mini-adventures with me. And, of course, I love a great sense of humor. I am always joking, I love to laugh and see the silly side of most situations, & most importantly I can laugh at myself, so I like to have great friends who see the world the same way!
