Miss Kendall County International 2010

What is your most prized possession?

Throughout my long list of life lessons learned, one of the most important is that the best things in life are not materialistic.  My most prized possession is definitely the love and support of my family who has stood beside me, unwavering.  They have always been that extra push when I needed it most and most importantly have kept me grounded.  My roots run extremely deep, and I am so proud to know that my family supports me 100% in every area of my life.

What is something few people know about you?

Few people know that I live on a pig farm in the tiny town of Sisterdale, Texas.  Nestled in the heart of the Hill Country, I grew up on a farm full of agriculture where we raise show pigs that we sell for 4H or FFA projects. I also showed pigs across Texas while in elementary, middle and high school, earning numerous scholarships.  It is a part of my life that I love and would not trade for anything.  People are usually shocked to find out though that I’ve spent the majority of my life in the pig pen!

What do you do to stay healthy?

I am constantly on-the-go during the day on the Texas A&M campus, so it becomes a challenge to eat healthy between classes.  Instead of eating snacks from the vending machine, I bring my lunch from home, drink plenty of water, and pack a couple of pieces of fruit to keep me satisfied throughout the day.  I also like to use the University Recreation Center to play sports with friends or use the indoor track. Not only does this keep me healthy, but it also helps relieve the daily stresses of classes, tests and life.  While visiting my family, I also love spending time with them picking vegetables from our garden and making heart-smart meals together.

Are you a good listener or a good talker?

I feel I possess both of these qualities which are essential in any relationship.  I am always willing to lend an ear to those in need and give advice when necessary.  I feel to be a helpful, supportive family member, friend or partner, you must engage in meaningful conversation as well as listen when someone needs an ear.

Name 3 characteristics you look for in a friend.

There are many different characteristics I look for in my friends, but I think the most important are honesty, trustworthiness, and a sense of humor.  I feel that I have surrounded myself with people who possess these qualities. I expect my friends to be honest with me, especially when I need it most.  I believe a relationship is built on trust, and I think trustworthiness is defined by one’s morals and values.  Laughter is the best medicine, and a sense of humor can brighten anyone’s day and bring memories that last a lifetime.  Because I feel these qualities are so important in a friend, I strive every day to work on these areas of my life to ensure that I am the person my friends want in their lives.
